What to expect
-
Our comprehensive evaluations begin with a clinical interview, which can be conducted virtually or in our Tallahassee office. After the interview, we will develop a personalized evaluation plan, so you know exactly what to expect on testing day.
On testing day, we use a variety of evidence-based assessment tools to assess neuropsychological functioning and address your specific concerns. Depending on your needs, this may include a cognitive assessment (IQ test), ADHD rating scales for the client and others, standardized executive functioning tests, and/or a formal Autism assessment (ADOS-2 or MIGDAS). If memory concerns are present, a memory assessment may also be included.
Following the testing, there will be a waiting period while your data is analyzed, and a comprehensive report is prepared. Once the report is complete, we will schedule a feedback session to review your results, answer any questions, and provide you with a detailed written report that includes assessment results, diagnoses (if applicable), and personalized recommendations tailored to your needs.

FAQs
-
Most evaluations involve several key components: a clinical interview session, one-on-one testing, information from collateral sources, and a feedback session.
The process begins with a clinical interview, where information about the referral concern and the goals of the evaluation will be gathered. A plan for the evaluation will be developed, outlining the steps to collect data. Depending on the nature of the evaluation, permission may be requested to contact others who can provide additional relevant information, such as caregivers, teachers, or medical providers. These individuals may be asked to complete rating scales or participate in interviews to offer further insights.
Next, one-on-one testing will be conducted, during which standardized assessment measures are used to gather objective data regarding the concerns. After the testing is completed, a comprehensive report will be written, which includes relevant background information, data, diagnoses, and recommendations. The process concludes with a feedback session, during which the data will be reviewed, and any questions you have will be addressed.
-
Whether testing is scheduled for an adult or a child, there is no need to feel pressured about the one-on-one testing appointment. Depending on the type of evaluation, testing may include activities such as puzzles, play-based tasks, timed exercises, reading, writing, math, and spelling. No studying or preparation is required—the goal is to assess typical functioning.
The best way to prepare is to get a good night’s sleep and have a healthy breakfast before the appointment.
Some testing appointments may last about an hour, while others could take several hours. Specific details about the expected duration will be provided when scheduling the appointment.
-
The comprehensive evaluation report will be completed within one month of receiving all data (which includes one-on-one testing and any rating scales sent to other individuals). If you need your report sooner, please let us know when you schedule so we can discuss options.
-
Gifted evaluations are generally more brief than other types of evaluations. The primary goal is to obtain an IQ score and, when applicable, provide a recommendation for the school district to consider the child for gifted placement. This recommendation does not ensure that your child will be placed in gifted, but it is a start to the discussion with your school district.
If more detailed information about a child’s academic functioning or capabilities is needed, a comprehensive evaluation, such as a psychoeducational evaluation, may be recommended.
-
Once the report is complete and reviewed during the feedback session, it may be shared with anyone deemed appropriate. Depending on the type of evaluation, many individuals choose to share the full report or specific sections with medical providers, schools, workplaces, or other institutions when seeking accommodations.
If assistance is needed in communicating with schools or other providers, advocacy services are available to support this process.
